Designing the World of Tabi: A Creative Journey
When Tatra Banka approached us to conceptualize and design the world of Tabi, their innovative banking app for children, we knew it was a project that required a blend of creativity, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of the app’s educational and financial themes. My role was pivotal in bringing this imaginative world to life, ultimately creating a captivating spot video using Houdini.
Conceptualization and Theme Development
Our journey began with brainstorming sessions to define the visual identity of Tabi. We wanted a vibrant, engaging world that reflected the app’s mission to educate children about finances in a fun and interactive way. We settled on a theme that combined elements of fantasy and practicality, creating an environment where learning about money felt like an adventure.
Visual Identity: We chose a color palette that was bright and inviting, using shades that appealed to children while maintaining a professional edge suitable for a financial institution.
Character Design: The characters in the Tabi world needed to be relatable and friendly. We designed avatars that children could identify with, each representing different aspects of financial education, such as saving, spending wisely, and understanding value.
World Design in Houdini
Using Houdini, we started crafting the intricate details of Tabi’s world. Houdini’s procedural generation capabilities allowed us to create complex environments that were both visually stunning and thematically consistent.
Environment Creation: We built various interactive environments where the app’s activities would take place. These included a whimsical bank, a bustling marketplace, and a serene savings park, each filled with interactive elements that children could explore.
Dynamic Elements: Houdini’s powerful simulation tools enabled us to add dynamic elements like flowing coins, growing savings trees, and animated financial concepts, making the learning experience visually engaging and memorable.
Crafting the Spot Video
The spot video was crucial for showcasing Tabi’s features and the enchanting world we had created. Here’s how we approached it:
Storyboard Development: We began by sketching a storyboard that outlined the journey of a child using Tabi. The storyboard highlighted key features of the app and how they integrated into the broader world we designed.
Animation and Effects: Using Houdini, we animated the storyboard elements, ensuring smooth transitions and engaging visuals. We added effects such as sparkles to denote successful transactions and gentle glows around important features to draw attention.
Rendering and Post-Production: The final step was rendering the animation and performing post-production enhancements. We used Houdini’s advanced rendering capabilities to produce high-quality visuals and added final touches in post-production to enhance the overall appeal.
Conclusion
Working on the design of the Tabi world and creating the themed spot video was a rewarding experience. It allowed me to utilize my creative and technical skills to craft an immersive and educational environment for children. Through meticulous design and innovative use of Houdini, we were able to create a world that not only met Tatra Banka’s expectations but also provided an engaging platform for young users to learn about finances.
