As a video creator, I was given the opportunity to work with Brambles, an incredibly talented music producer based in Melbourne, Australia. Brambles had a vision for a dreamy and ethereal world to accompany her music, and I was tasked with bringing that vision to life.
The process began with the creation of low-poly models using an iPad. While this may seem like a limitation, it allowed me to quickly experiment with different shapes and forms. Once I was satisfied with the models, I then optimized them in Zbrush for animation.
To bring the dreamy, windy effects to the video, I utilized the vellum tool in HoudiniFX. This powerful tool allowed me to create quick simulations on low-poly objects and then projected the motion back to the original geometry which had over 5 million polygons which saved me a ton of time not creating new topology by hand. The result was a mesmerizing and dynamic animation that perfectly captured the essence of Brambles' music.
The texturing of the video was done entirely procedurally using a third-party renderer called Redshift. This powerful tool allowed me to create rich, detailed textures that perfectly complemented the animation. I also added smoke effects to the video, which were done procedurally using a VOP node and modified with noise.
The final result was a visually stunning and engaging video that perfectly captures the essence of Brambles' music. It was an incredibly rewarding experience to work on this project and I am proud of the results. I am looking forward to working on more projects like this in the future.
Creating the water simulation of the "water star" for the object in this video was a particularly challenging and exciting aspect of the project. I started by using particles that were moving along a custom velocity vector, which allowed me to control the direction and movement of the water. To enhance the realism of the simulation, I also incorporated an invisible sphere in the middle that was constantly growing in size. This sphere collided with the particles, creating a dynamic and believable impact effect.
One of the key challenges was matching the water simulation with the transition to the next scene. To achieve this, I carefully crafted the timing and intensity of the impact, ensuring that it seamlessly blended with the following scene. The result was a fluid and natural transition that immerses the viewer in the dreamy world of Brambles' music.
The water simulation was a challenging yet incredibly rewarding aspect of this project. Using a combination of particles, custom velocity vectors, and dynamic collision effects, I was able to create a believable and visually stunning water simulation that perfectly complemented the overall aesthetic of the video.
Bringing the creature in the video to life required a combination of technical skill and artistic vision. One of the key elements in achieving this was the use of Zbrush to model the internal structure of the creature. This allowed me to give the creature a more believable and organic look, making it appear as though it truly existed in the dreamy world of the video.
But it was not only the look but also the simulation that was improved by this approach. The added detail and complexity of the internal structure provided a more interesting and dynamic simulation, resulting in a creature that moved and reacted in a more believable and lifelike manner.
Creating the creature was a true labor of love, and I was thrilled with the results. The inside of the creature not only added visual depth and believability to the creature but also made the simulation more dynamic and engaging. It was a real pleasure to bring this creature to life and see it come alive on the screen.
One of the most captivating elements in the video was the creation of a "water star" as I called it. This mesmerizing object was sculpted with a high level of detail, with around 18k polygons. I used the same technical approach as I did for the previous object, which allowed me to create a highly believable and dynamic simulation.

Creating the "water star" was an incredibly satisfying experience, as I was able to bring an abstract idea to life in a visually stunning way. The high level of detail and dynamic simulation made it a true standout in the video, and the final symmetric version perfectly matched the desired effect of a water explosion, making it even more captivating. It was a real pleasure to see this object come to life on screen and add to the overall immersive experience of the dreamy world of Brambles' music.
